Abstract
(en) Can we speak of a gradual disruption between body and mind that is induced by the digital world? The study of the imaginary world of zombies, those creatures without conscience and spirit and that of the transhuman, chasing an ideal of pure spirit, indicates a malaise in civilization. What to do with space (at the time of globalization), the body (at the time of the machine), death (at the time of the loss of the transcendences)? If the zombie evokes the corrosion of body and mind caused by the rhythm of modernity, then we understand that salvation, for the post-humanists would favor the “disembodying” of humankind. Theologians, for whom tradition does not separate nature and culture or body and spirit in humankind, cannot bring themselves to accept a digital immortality which in the end cannot escape the law of entropy. Nor can the theologians accept the dehumanizing strategies of modernity that empty individuals of all consciousness, of all freedom.
