This work aims to characterize tumor-resident bacteria in colorectal cancer (CRC) metastases, matched primary tumors, and in a control group of non-CRC tumors (liver PT and non-CRC liver MT) through different methodologies (16s rRNA gene sequencing and fluorescent in situ hybridization). Our analyses revealed a consistent and distinct microbial signature in metastatic CRC, along with a potential bacterial dissemination during cancer progression.
