- Abstract
- The European Commission adopted a Communication entitled the European Green Deal (EGD) that sets out the blueprint for transformational change of the EU and its engagement with the World. This key communication has been followed by a flurry of complementary strategies (Biodiversity Strategy, Forest Strategy, Circular Economy Action Plan, etc.). Furthermore, although the EU is one of the world’s largest energy consumers and GHG emitters, it has been the first major economy to commit to climate neutrality as a binding target by 2050 compared to 1990 level (European Climate Law, 2021). Against this background, the Commission is in the process of submitting to the EU lawmaker 12 legislative proposals (Fit for 55), several of which are likely to impact trade and investment with third countries.
