Abstract
The velocity constant of the diaphragm muscle of Choloepus hoffmanni is three times smaller and the muscle is therefore three times slower than the homologous muscles of the cat and the rat. In passing from the fetal state to the adult state, muscle is enriched in myoglobin, but its velocity constant does not vary: it does not differentiate into fast muscle. Adrenaline has on the "red" muscles of the Choloepus the same type of potentiation of the contraction as on the "white" muscles of the cat and the rat.
