- Antimicrobials constitute (after fragrances) the second most common cause of contact allergy to cosmetics. Methylisothiazolinone, previously used together with methylchloroisothiazolinone, has recently been approved in the EU for use in cosmetics and also industrial and domestics products. It seems that methylisothiazolinone alone becomes a moderate or even a strong sensitizer
