Abstract
(en) I. Finkelstein and N.A. Silberman’s work Bible and Archaeology been translated into French under the title" La Bible dévoilée" is aimed at the general public. It makes know the conclusions of recent research and discoveries in archaeology and notes the frequent disagreements between history according to the Bible and history according to archaeology. This article notes the value of the archaeological information of the work, while reminding the reader that many of the points remain debated; this article regrets however the absence of both a true historiographical reflection and balanced exegetical information. Archaeology must no more prove that the Bible says the truth than the contrary, but it can help in understanding what it says.
