Are there links between health in the old-age and the fact of owning a pet ? The present paper is an attempt to overcome the lack in the scientific literature about this topic, by means of a critical review of three existing studies : one which investigates the general relationship between ageing and the fact of owning a pet, the second which rejects health-related effects of such a relationship, and the third one who corroborates the positive health effects of such an ownership. Possible underlying mechanisms that could be relevant to understand the links between owning a pet and health, as well as important limits in this matter, are outlined.
