Abstract
In this guest lecture I show that political discourse and discourse on the self are inherently linked in discourse on political engagement. Building on a combination of poststructuralist discourse theory and pragmatic linguistics, I show how the development of political and self-awareness go hand in hand. At the heart of this presentation lies a concept of discourse as a performative and connective practice of articulation that enables social actors to temporarily and partially fix the meanings of their political relations with(in) the societal contexts wherein they move. The data presented contain examples from interview data with intellectuals and activists involved in the field of Flemish/Belgian minority politics.
