- People in the Czech Republic are more and more interested in healthy products. One of the sources for healthy food might be Tartary buckwheat (Fagopyrum tataricum Gaertn.) which has been nowadays not very common in the Czech Republic. In contrary to common buckwheat (F. esculentum Moench.), this species possesses higher nutritional properties and medicinal activities. To enhance the usability of Tartary buckwheat, the content of the most important compounds should be known. To confirm that, different compounds were analysed e.g. protein content and the rutin concentration in 35 genotypes from the buckwheat collection from the Czech Gene Bank. These tests demonstrated that F. tataricum has a higher rutin but less protein content in comparison to common buckwheat. Proteins separation by electrophoresis enables to create a dendrogram and analyze the relationships between the genotypes. These results will help to choose the best genotypes to introduce in Czech Republic.
