- Abstract
- In this lecture, Minne De Boodt discusses the history of political participation in the late medieval city. She describes in this context the political landscape of this period as well as the different ways in which the population helped shape this landscape and made its voice heard. In this way, Minne De Boodt shows that, although the Middle Ages were not a democracy in the modern meaning of the word, they were neither undemocratic nor authoritarian. On the contrary, late medieval politics was a dialogue of give and take.
