Knowledge of soil hydraulic properties is mandatory for describing and predicting water flow and solute transport in the vadose zone. Objectives: Experimentally analyze the feasibility of estimating key soil hydraulic properties from microwave remote sensing, i.e., (i) Ground-penetrating radar (GPR) data (active system) (ii) L-band radiometer data (passive system) Quantify the uncertainty of the estimated hydraulic parameters Compare the GPR- and radiometer-derived hydraulic parameters against reference laboratory measurements and estimates from TDR.
