- Belgian scholars have undertaken a series of initiatives for the study of Latin, the primary intellectual vehicle of Europe for almost two millennia. They are currently engaged in the computerization and systematic philological analysis of a great number of texts. Part of this work is being accomplished by the Belgian National Committee for the Dictionary of Medieval Latin under the auspices of the National Endowment for Scientific Research. The National Committee has entrusted to CETEDOC, the Center for the Electronic Treatment of Documents of the University of Louvain, the responsibility for computerizing and analyzing all texts of Belgian provenance from the Middle Ages to 1200 AD.
