A 67-year-old man with a history of right upper lobectomy was admitted to our intensive care unit and started on mechanical ventilation because of bilateral pneumonia. Despite appropriate antibiotic therapy, the patient’s respiratory status rapidly worsened with increased oxygen requirements and the development of a marked respiratory acidosis. Chest X-ray remained unchanged and showed bilateral diffuse infiltrates. Complete lung consolidation in the upper anteromedial thoracic zone was observed using lung ultrasonography. [...]
