Due to its potential to greatly accelerate a wide variety of applications, reconfigurable computing has gained importance in the industrial development of digital signal processing systems. This chapter discusses how the specificities of Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) can be exploited for the secure and efficient implementation of symmetric cryptographic algorithms and protocols.
