(en) In intensive care units, assistance for acutely premature babies leads the medical team to decide on interrupting therapeutic help to a new-born child whose prognosis is a severe handicap. The ethical problem of this clinical situation is different from that of adult euthanasia. This article challenges, among other things, the pertinence of the distinction between passive and active euthanasia : the term “euthanasia” has to be limited to the deliberate activation of a process leading to death which is different from the process in which the patient is naturally involved.
