Sobre la violencia. Comprender, nombrar, definir: ¿una tarea imposible?

- Español - Este texto es un ensayo para abordar, no la violencia de una manera muy abstracta, sino lo que significa para el esfuerzo científico que busca acercarse a ella. Para ello, nuestro artículo explora tres direcciones: comprender —tanto captar como aprehender— las formas que adopta la violencia en su diversidad; nombrar lo que ocurre, al tiempo que se subrayan las dificultades del lenguaje argumentativo para lograrlo; y, por último, definir la violencia, no como una serie de situaciones fijas, sino como un espacio de problematización construido a partir de tres polaridades (fenomenológica, sociológica y ontológica). En el plano práctico, su contribución consiste en tratar de relacionar situaciones dispares, sin reducir la violencia a una forma única, como por ejemplo “la guerra”. En el plano teórico, su contribución es doble: rompiendo con el análisis funcionalista de la violencia que aún domina muchos trabajos sociológicos, sugiere un enfoque dramatúrgico; lejos de un intento sustancialista que busca identificar la violencia con tal o cual situación, promueve una perspectiva diferencial sobre la violencia. Es en el marco de este cambio (giro dramatúrgico y enfoque diferencial) donde se sitúa nuestro intento de comprender, nombrar, definir. English - This text is an attempt to address violence, not in a highly abstract manner, but through what it means for scientific endeavours that seek to understand it. To this end, our article explores three directions: understanding—both grasping and apprehending—the forms that violence takes in its diversity; naming what happens, while highlighting the difficulties of argumentative language in achieving this; and, finally, defining violence, not as a series of fixed situations, but as a space of problematisation constructed from three polarities (phenomenological, sociological and ontological). On a practical level, its contribution consists of attempting to relate disparate situations without reducing violence to a single form, such as ‘war’. On a theoretical level, its contribution is twofold: breaking with the functionalist analysis of violence that still dominates much sociological work, he suggests a dramaturgical approach; far from a substantialist attempt to identify violence with this or that situation, he promotes a differential perspective on violence. It is within the framework of this change (dramaturgical shift and differential approach) that our attempt to understand, name and define is situated.
