(en) This contribution builds on the first chapter ever to be devoted to ancient and Byzantine weights in the 2014–2020 Survey of Numismatic Research. It provides an overview of recent stathmological research across the Mediterranean region from the Bronze Age to the Byzantine period. The focus is on Greek, Roman, Late Roman and Byzantine weights. We also summarise research on weights from the Bronze and Iron Ages, as the methodological issues raised by this material are equally relevant to these historical periods. Our interest also extends to other weighing instruments, such as steelyards and counterweights, official capacity measures and measuring tables. Finally, particular attention is paid to the administration of weights and measures, including officials, market regulations and metrological reforms.
