- (en) In May 2007, a round table was held at the International College of Philosophy in Paris on the theme of Pierre Magnard’s work Pourquoi la religion?. In a synopsis, the book’s author who is a specialist on Renaissance thought shows the speculative and practical issues of his approach to religion which manifests itself in the “march” of mankind in quest of their humanization. If religion, understood here in the singular, brings about new ties by making a contribution to the basis of social ties, it is probably because of its capacity to untie: “only religion truly brings together because it alone is capable of untying”. Jean Leclecrq presents the major themes of this book which gives the opportunity to have a first look and then undertake the three readings, accompanied by questions, which are proposed according to different and complementary perspectives by Bernard Bourgeois, Thierry Gontier and Christian Trottmann.
