Abstract
Cruise shipping has increased dramatically in the recent past, and it is a new frontier for the tourism industry. In the first part of the paper, the respective shares of the main cruise areas are shown, and the very small share of oceanic cruises is highlighted, as most cruises are offered in epicontinental seas. In the second part, two major types of seascapes are identified, those in the high seas on the one hand, and those of the seashores seen from ship's deck on the other hand. In both cases, several sub-types are furthermore suggested, with a series of European and overseas examples.
