This paper seeks to contribute to the research effort aimed at exploiting keylogging for pedagogical purposes (e.g., Lindgren et al. 2008, Ranalli et al. 2018, Vandermeulen et al. 2020). Its objective is to assess L2 learners’ awareness of their own writing process, with a particular focus on their writing fluency. An experiment was carried out among learners of English as a foreign language who wrote an essay while their writing process was recorded by Inputlog (Leijten & Van Waes, 2013). After the writing task, the learners filled in a questionnaire in which they had to evaluate certain aspects of their writing process (pausing time, number of revisions, proportion of text kept in the final product, etc.) and select the process graph representing their own writing process. Each learner then received their Inputlog report and compared their actual writing process with what they had imagined it to be. This led to group discussions in which the learners shared their reactions about the accuracy of their self-assessment. The results of this experiment will help determine to what extent learners are conscious of their own writing process and whether they tend to under- or overestimate their writing fluency. This will constitute the starting point of awareness-raising activities aimed at making learners better aware of their writing process.
