Abstract
(en) Raised ferritin levels are common in patients with type 2 diabetes or the metabolic syndrome. It is associated with liver steatosis and insulin resistance, and, paradoxically, with lower prevalence of macroangiopathy in the male gender, which could be related to ferritin’s antioxidant properties.
