- (en) ABSTRACT Why do current critical reconstructions of the Greek text of Rom 5:1 read ἔχομεν and not ἔχωμεν? Without a detour into textual criticism, it is not easy to perceive how fragile the phil- ological consensus sometimes might be. The current reading - followed by the major contem- porary translations into the vernacular languages - is ultimately based on nothing more than a coup de force performed in the sixteenth century in order to push through a rather minority reading which stands in opposition to the entire tradition. The precise reason for this choice is rather obscure, and would deserve a thorough history of the reception of this Pauline verse.
