Abstract
Idrabel is a biotechnology company that develops and provides products to treat any organic pollution in industrial and municipal water. For instance, one of their products "Biocol" permits treatment of municipal wastewater, sewer systems and collectors that are also potential nesting sites for many species of mosquitoes. The idea has been developed to deal simultaneously with Biocol waters and a new formulation of Bacillus thuringiensis (Bti) active against mosquito larvae. Indeed, one of the factors limiting the effectiveness of Bti is its low persistence particularly in waters rich in organic matter. A new formulation has been designed to increase the lifetime of the product after processing. This research therefore aims to develop and study the larvicidal efficacy of a prototype "Bti-Biocol" on the larvae of Culex pipiens. Different active ingredients, various natural materials and various manufacturing processes were tested, each with interesting characteristics in the development of a prototype. Two formulations were selected; their toxicity and persistence were studied in clean waters on Culex pipiens. These complexes "Bti-support" were then incorporated to Biocol and tested, in this work, in wastewater. Efficiency approaching 100 % mortality occurs still 17 days after treatment. Tests on larvae of Aedes geniculatus confirm these results.
