Abstract
(en) The place of surgery and the extent of resection in the management of metastatic breast cancer and loco-regional recurrences have not been well-addressed in the literature. According to recent reports, metastatic patients may benefit from breast tumor resection. Regarding loco-regional recurrences, the problem appears more complex, due to the lack of studies exclusively dedicated to loco-regional recurrences. This article discusses the results of an observational study performed at St. Luc University Clinics, Brussels, and explains the place and procedures of extensive surgery in metastatic breast tumor patients. This surgery should be part of a multidisciplinary approach to be discussed with oncologists and radiotherapists.
