Abstract
(en) [Theoretical and clinical approach to trauma in cases concerning rape in Sud-Kivu (Democratic Republic of Congo, DRC)] It is well known that rape has significant potential for inducing post-traumatic stress disorder. One aspect that has been insufficiently explored in the past is the following: What is the place of culture in the psychopathology of trauma? This article highlights the relevance of taking into account cultural interpretations in the management of rape victims in Sud-Kivu (Democratic Republic of Congo). A sexual relationship outside the couple is considered as mortiferous for it transforms the victim of rape into poison. Any further sexual relationship with the partner will thus be dreaded, since it is potentially fatal for the latter. This new insight into traumatic manifestations of rape victims may be useful for our patient care planning.
