Abstract
An epistemological and methodological article on the concepts of correspondences and transformations usable in comparative Indo-European mythology, challenging the fanciful idea of a ‘PIE’ language, culture or people that can be reconstructed, and instead using the concept of Indo-European linguistic or mythological 'area' that allows for meaningful comparisons. The myth examined here as sample is that of the birth of the Greek Achilles, corresponding to the birth of the Indian Āyus and the Ossetian Batraz.
