- Abstract
- (en) In this article we propose to understand the sense in which it is arguable that Ortega y Gasset adopts an original hermeneutic view of history in his socalled “second navigation”. Drawing on his definition of historical reason as narrative reason, we herewith explore the Orteguian concept of narration, which as we demonstrate needs to be conceived both in the field of historical science (historia rerum gestarum) and in the field of “effective” history (res gestae). The thesis we defend is that the originality of the Orteguian hermeneutics of history lies in the Madrid philosopher's attempt to make these two levels of narrativity coincide.
