- This presentation proposes an inquiry of Foucault’s theory of subjectivation, extending it to institutional actors engaged in “relations of prescription” (Hatchuel, 1996) in the education field. It questions the capacity of resistance of African institutional actors to education external prescriptions of international organisations. While Foucault’s theory highlights the capacity of the individual subject to resist power through various techniques of “subjection” (1990), it remains elliptical regarding the forms of resistance of institutional actors engaged in unequal power relations. The theoretical extension proposed in this paper is based on the complementary association of Foucault’s concept of “apparatus” (1994/1977) with Hirschman’s theory (1970) completed by Bajoit’s concept of “apathy” (1988). The complementary association allows constructing a typology concerning the actions of resistance of institutional actors – from appropriation to opposition practices – and it indicates their effects.
