Abstract
Phylogenetic relationships within Saccharomyces cerevisiae complex between the neotype strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae sensu stricto and type and neotype strains of a number of synonyms were estimated by comparison of nucleotide sequences of domain D2 of 25S rRNA and internal transcribed spacers regions ITS1-5.8SrDNA-ITS2. The sequences have been analyzed for phylogenetic implications using parsimony and distant methods. The species examined were S. cerevisiae, S., bayanus, S. carlsbergensis, S. chevalieri, S. ellipsoideus, S. paradoxus, S. pastorianus and S. uvarum. It was shown that phylogenetic relationships inferred from analyses of ITS sequences correlate with results from DNA-DNA hybridization, with exception that S. uvarum remains distant from S. bayanus and the other species.
