We conclude that the substitution of one fast light chain LC1f in type IIA fast fibre by one slow light chain LC1s in type IIA(IM) fibres does not change the maximal velocity of shortening but reduces both b and a/Fo of Hill's equation. In molecular terms, this could mean that the alkali light chain does not influence the maximum ATPase activity of the cross-bridges, but modulates the energy transfer from the AIPase site to the force-transducing site.
