Abstract
Several studies of horizontal collaborations have shown that they may generate benefits. Recent researches have however shown that these savings may have various scales. We conduct a large set of numerical experiments with a location-inventory model to estimate their respective influence on the coalition gain and to attempt explaining these mixed results. This study enables us to assess the impact on transportation, inventory, ordering and safety stock costs at distribution centers and retailers, comparing results of stand-alone companies and horizontal partnerships.
