: Intensive Care Unit admission after major non-cardiac surgery might not be as beneficial as expected for all high-risk patients. Emphasis should be put on individualized preoperative risk stratification and intense postoperative screening of cardiovascular events. Preoperative High-sensitivity cardiac troponin T allows for both preoperative as well as postoperative screening.
