Approche qualitative des facteurs de réussite et d'échec en première année d'étude à l'université du Burundi : cas des étudiants formés dans les collèges communaux
This doctoral thesis aims to understand the factors of success and failure of first year university students that have been graduated from secondary community colleges in Burundi. In-depth qualitative interviews were conducted at the end of their first year in order to challenge theoretical models whose empirical results are mostly from the Western context in the specific context of Burundi. These students trained in community colleges experienced living and training conditions particularly difficult that would reduce their chances of success in higher education. However, our results show a configuration of factors and multiple relationships , which put into perspective studies conducted in Western countries about the success and failure factors and stress the importance of considering with particular attention cultural and socio-economic contexts in which university studies are held.
