Abstract
Hans Jonas’ ecological interpretation of the technological civilization provides a framework for revisiting the management of the commons across Africa. Crossing Jonas’ heritage with Afropolitanism makes it possible to reframe philosophically Africa’s ecological issues and to seek means to free the African continent from the predation which it has suffered for centuries. Africa’s history is interwoven with pain and fractures since the time of plantations and slavery up to the present day. By revisiting this journey through the lens of the Jonasian heritage, present day Afropolitan ecology (Afroecology) gains the capacity to identify the relevant topics to be reframed in order to achieve a new Africa considered as an eidos, a “Tout-Monde”, an entity connected to other worlds and continents, and no longer regarded as solely a locus or a topos. This effort results in the achievement of a Categorical Imperative for Africa, stemming from a philosophical and historical enquiry into the theoretical foundations and epistemological roots of the ecology of predation. Indeed, the aim of this effort is to rewrite the meaning of the “Tout-Monde” that is Africa and to make it the pivot of humanity’s future.
