Abstract
(en) [Time and experience in favour of new oral anticoagulant agents] In 2008, the long-awaited and revolutionary results of the RELY study were published, demonstrating the efficacy of dabigatran etexilate (Pradaxa®) in preventing thromboembolic events when given to patients with atrial fibrillation. Pradaxa® was the first agent of a new therapeutic class "new oral anticoagulants" ( NOACs ) to be approved and validated for a wide number of indications in venous or arterial thrombosis prevention and treatment. The experience gained over the 5 years that have elapsed since the RELY publication, the results from other studies, and particularly the rigorous accumulation of epidemiological data pertaining to the drug's use in the real-world setting outside clinical studies now offer the unique opportunity to update the Pradaxa® status, thereby demonstrating that our expectations have not been disappointed.
