Abstract
Nursing homes are a fast-growing sector facing huge and sometimes barely reconcilable challenges that are at the heart of the provision of services. Nursing homes are constantly seeking compromise solutions and are thereby forced to innovate in numerous fields. Under the light of the French Convention Theory, this research investigates the dynamics of innovation through three in-depth qualitative case studies: nonprofit, for-profit and state owned nursing homes. The findings suggest that innovations, considered as compromise devices, are framed by the legal status of the nursing homes in which they ground their justifications. It also shows the influence exerted by external and internal actors on innovation trajectories.
