Abstract
The last thirty years have seen a significant growth in the exploitation of natural resources in Peru, generating a large number of social conflicts and environmental, economic and social transformations. This paper, based on a joint reflection with Luis Mujica (PUCP, Peru) poses the question of what Anthropology says and can say in this context and what positioning Anthropology adopts and could adopt in conflictual and unequal situations. Having presented the background of natural resource exploitation in Peru, we will outline a type of anthropology which refer to as 'instrumental to the economic model', linked to private enterprise or public policy favorable to it. We will then explore some of the broad themes taken up by a more analytic Anthropology, external to private enterprise, and conclude by tracing the possibility of developing a truly critical Anthropology.
