In recent years, collaboration has become a way for entrepreneurs to reach innovation. In this context, the model of collaborative entrepreneurship has identified a venture’s ability to collaborate as a key factor in innovation and knowledge acquisition (Miles, Miles, Snow, 2005). However, we have identified a theoretical gap since this model does not explicitly address the issue of the heterogeneity of actors. Yet, according to literature (Nieto, Santamaría, 2007), a heterogeneous network fosters innovation processes and increases knowledge creation. This observation has also been noted in the specific context of entrepreneurship (McEvily, Zaheer, 1999). It is thus essential to promote collaboration between heterogeneous groups. In the field of Science and Technology Studies, we are interested in the concept of boundary object, an arrangement considering the work of heterogeneous groups (Star, Griesemer, 1989). Studying collaboration between individuals in the context of knowledge creation, our paper discusses the limits of the collaborative entrepreneurship model. Indeed, this model does not explicitly address the importance of the heterogeneity of actors in a collaborative process. Our research question is as follows: What role boundary objects play in strengthening the collaborative entrepreneurship model?
