(en) Nitroimidazole PET tracers are used to assess in vivo the presence and distribution of hypoxic areas within tumors. These images can serve as a basis for a targeted radiotherapy approach called "Dose Painting". The two main limitations of this approach are the limited resolution of PET imaging and the low image contrast obtained with nitroimidazoles. This work attempts to answer these two questions by evaluating the resolution of PET in the framework of targeted radiotherapy, by improving the signal-to-noise in the images and assess the role of 18F-FDG as hypoxia tracer.
