Abstract
The single-crystal X-ray structure determination shows that likasite has the composition Cu/sub 3/PHPH/sub 2/(NO/sub 3 /)(OH)/sub 2/.H/sub 2/O. The space group is /b Pc/2 /sub 1//b n/ with /b a/=5.828 (5), /b b/=6.769 (5), /b c /=21.690 (15) A and /b Z/=4. The structure has been refined by block-diagonal least-squares calculations to a final /b R/ value of 12.7% for 488 observed amplitudes. The structure consists of infinite layers of Cu/sub 3/P/sub 2/H/sub 3/(OH)/sub 2/ linked by NO/sub 3//sup -/ and H/sub 2/O. The most interesting distances are: Cu/sup 2+/-P/sup 3-/ 1.94 to 2.01, P(H)...O(H) 2.63, P(H)...O(H/sub 2/) 2.85, P(H)...O(NO/sub 2/) 2.93 A.
