- The social dimensions of structural adjustment are receiving more and more attention. India's structural adjustment programme began in 1992 with the aid of World Bank finance and the process continues. The author describes the creation of a National Renewal Fund to deal with the problems of restructuring ''sick'' public sector units. He examines the relative influence Indian employers and workers have been able to bring to bear to represent their interests. He also scrutinizes the country's tripartite framework, highlighting the way it has been used by the Government to defuse conflict over industrial restructuring.
