(en) Observations regarding the economic development policy in Wallonia demonstrate the presence of both a subregional scale of action and a discursive regional scale. The case is used to examine 3 different meanings of the scale: le level of government, the ouptut of practice and the represented space. The path dependcy and the territorial development provide the theoretical framework we use to illustrate how subregional scales may survive; the impact of politics on public action is shown as a potential vehicle of change. Whether the expected scalar change will be reinforced or weakened- and dissolved - is currently a prospective question.
