Abstract
“Traditional values” have become a buzzword in global politics. However, while many governments and organisations claim “traditional values”, traditions vary around the globe and so does the content of these “values”. Anthropologists and historians have also long demonstrated that traditions are necessarily invented. This roundtable gathers scholars from different parts to interrogate the content and the use of “traditional values” in global sexual politics. We will address the following questions: Who uses this notion and to which purposes? What is meant by “traditional values” in specific as well as transnational settings? Against whom and against what do specific actors use this notion?
