Abstract
The reactions of PhSnCl3, Ph2SnCl2, Me2SnCl2, and SnCl4 with the Schiff bases (L) N-(4-hydroxybenzalidene)-o-methoxyaniline and N-(4-hydroxybenzalidene)-p-methoxyaniline result in the formation of tin(IV) anionic complexes. Both PhSnCl3 and Ph2SnCl2 react with the ortho-substituted 4-hydroxybenzalideneaniline Schiff base in dichloromethane to form the identical complex salt [LH+]2[Ph2SnCl4]2- (LH+ = protonated L), with the former reacting via a disproportionation and halide addition mechanism. X-ray structural analysis has been carried out on [L'H+]2[Ph2SnCl4]2- {L' = N-(4-hydroxybenzalidene)-p-methoxyaniline}. The reactions of Me2SnCl2 and SnCl4 with N-(4-hydroxybenzalidene)-o-methoxyaniline form the complexes [LH+]2[Me4Sn2Cl6]2- and [LH+]2[SnCl6]2-, respectively. All synthesized compounds were characterized by microanalysis, IR and H-1 NMR spectroscopy.
