This article provides an overview of several recurring themes that characterize
ancient Egyptian love poetry and the elements of figurative language (metaphors and
other tropes) associated with them. The study also investigates the parallels between
the evocations of love and its effects in other literary genres, within and outside the
spatio-temporal borders of ancient Egypt literature. Finally, as the use of implicit
meaning is also omnipresent in ancient Egyptian art, other parallels are highlighted
between the love songs and some figurative representations in Theban Tombs.
