Abstract
With data from the French comic 'Astérix chez les Belges' and its German translation, this chapter studies some linguistic specificities of the Belgian variety of French. In a contrastive perspective it shows that the German equivalents do not properly reflect the characteristics of the Belgian variety. The chapter further explores the socio-cultural aspects expressed in the comics, either visually as well as verbally. Finally, it elaborates on the possible pedagogical applications and the use of comics in foreign language teaching.
