Abstract
Over the last decades, emotional competencies have been highlighted as key personal resources to be developed in pre-service teachers because they prepare them to face the emotional challenges within the teaching profession. In addition, strengthening these skills during the initial teacher training would enable pre-service teachers to cope with stress and burnout during their practicum. However, studies establishing associations between these variables are still limited, thus restricting our knowledge of the benefits of emotional competencies. Moreover, few studies focus on practicum periods or target students at the end of their training. To fill these gaps, this doctoral thesis examines the associations between emotional competencies, perceived stress, and burnout during the practicum, among pre-service teachers in their final year of training. These relationships are explored through three quantitative studies. Concurrently, a fourth qualitative study analyses the perceived demands during practicum, the professional and personal resources available to pre-service teachers, as well as the manifestations of stress and burnout.
