Abstract
The new generation of dose calculation algorithms (AAA/Collapsed Cone) predict dosimetric effects that have never been observed with Pencil Beam algorithms. Calculated dose distribution in lung tumours become dependent on the tumour position inside the PTV due to the presence of low density tissues around the tumour. We first have experimentally verified this effect in a home-made phantom, and afterwards we investigated the effect it can have on the CTV coverage for small moving lung tumours.
