Abstract
(en) In this article, I will try to show how concept and poetical work are able to clarify each other, by studying the idea of melancholy in Gérard de Nerval’s Les Chimères. Melancholy appears as a recurring theme of the book, giving it coherence and revealing the depth of an existential questioning which haunts all of Nerval's writing. Reciprocally, the poetical regime of language gives form to the concept, embodying it in its own images and rhythm, and thereby contributes to developing its significance. The study of Nerval's melancholy ultimately reveals a mode of creation that is characteristically romantic, in search of a meaning which is only unveiled through a work of imagination mobilizing the ghostly forms of a past in permanent recomposition.
