Abstract
This panel bridges political theory and real-life movement experiences from the United States, the Rojava solidarity movement, Argentina, Barcelona, and beyond to explore questions of power and leadership within direct democracy movements. Presenters will address topics including individual leadership, affective relationships, the tension between popular assemblies and political parties, and dynamics of power and municipal governance from a legal perspective. As an all-women panel, we bring a spirit of feminizing politics and will promote a collaborative, generative conversation that embodies the horizontal, participatory principles that we promote.
